Important installation note
After installing and activating the theme, you need to navigate to Settings > Permalinks and click on the ââ¬ÅSave Changesââ¬Â button, even if you havenââ¬â¢t made any changes. This is to register the custom post types used in the theme.
You also need to navigate to Settings > Reading and set front page to display “Your latest posts” if you have previously had a static page as your front page.
The Apz home page layout
Below is a screenshot of the Apz home page with each of it’s modules explained. More detailed documentation below.
Setting up the home page
The home page of Apz is completely modular, with 2 widgetized regions available for placement of custom woo widgets, whilst everything else is controlled by the theme options panel. Any module can be disabled to transform the home page layout into something that fits your requirements.
Set the total number of posts to display on the home page under Settings > Reading. i.e. if you want 6 recent posts, and 4 older posts below it, set the number to “10” (remembering to set the theme options – Home Page settings – to “6”).
Setting up the featured panel
The home page featured panel can be used to highlight core features of your app, or noteworthy information about it. The featured panel uses the “Slides” custom post type. It will display the title of the post, the excerpt, and the optional, but important, custom image which is the focal point of the panel.
If you are using the iPhone background as your image holder, which is set as default, the dimensions are as follows:
197px wide x 295px tall
Setting up the featured media panel
The featured media panel is the one below the featured slider on the home page, it can house screenshots/images and videos to further market your app. When creating a video or image post use the “Media” custom post type, and add your image and/or embed code to the Apz Custom Settings panel. If you add an embed code it will automatically set the post as a video for display in the featured media panel.
Setting up the widget panel
The widget panel on the home page allows for two columns of widgets, you can select any of the custom woo widgets listed lower in this theme document. Simply enable the widget panel under it’s theme options panel, then navigate to “Appearance > Widgets” and add widgets to the “Homepage Left” and “Homepage Right” widgetized regions.
Setting up the contact panel
Simply enable the contact panel under it’s theme options panel, and add the email address you want it to use. You can also add your Twitter and Facebook links for them to appear next to the contact form on the home page.
Setting up the blog
To create your dedicated blog page, that can be linked to from the top menu, simply create a new WordPress page, give it a title, for example “Blog” – then assign the “Blog” template under the page template chooser. The theme does the rest for you.
The latest blog posts can be displayed on the home page, as well as having it’s own dedicated page to listing all your blog posts written. To enable it on the home page simply navigate to it on the “Blog Panel” and assign the page you dedicated to the blog in the “Blog Page Template” dropdown menu, You can also select the amount of blog posts to display on the home page.
You can then assign widgets to the dedicated blog page sidebar and footer under “Appearance > Widgets”.
