How To

Setting up the home page featured post carousel

If you wish to use the Daily Edition home page featured carousel you need to enable it in the theme option’s panel. See screenshot below:

You then need to assign a tag to it to display posts for. For the demo we created a tag called “Featured” then tagged some posts with it. You can then specify exactly how many featured entries you want the scroller to scroll through.

Adding an image for the featured slider and post thumbnails

To add an image to a post for the featured slides to display correctly, and the thumbnails for the home page and archive blog posts you need to add an image via the “Daily Edition Custom Settings” panel viewable below your blog/page post form in the WordPress backend.

The custom settings panel will like the screenshot below.

Simply choose an image on your local computer using the “Choose File” button then click “Save” and the image will be automatically resized for the featured slider (if required) and the post thumbnails.

Please note the image resizer can resize an image to a smaller size, but cannot stretch an image to be bigger than the uploaded size.

Selecting your Daily Edition home page layout

With the Daily Edition theme you have the option to select how exactly many full width blog posts and half width post boxes you want to appear in the main column of the home page and archive pages. This can be set in the “Layout” theme option’s panel displayed below:

You can specify if you want the excerpt to appear or the full post content (up until your “read more” break) in both post layouts.

You also have the option here to disable the tabber in the sidebar across the whole site, and the option to enable/disable the author bio information at the bottom of each single post page.

Adding a video to the home page video player

To add a video post to appear in the video player on the home page you need to add a new post, or edit and existing one, and navigate to the bottom of the post where “Daily Edition Custom Settings” panel is.

Add an optional picture to your post for thumbnail view, and the embed code of the video, found on most streaming video sites. Don’t worry about resizing the video embed code’s width and height as this will be done automatically.

Your video post must be tagged with the tag you specified in the “Home Page Video Player” theme option’s panel.

Setting up your talking points module

The Talking Points module is unique to Daily Edition and allows you to list posts tagged with a specific tag in order from most commented to least commented on the home page. A great way of highlighting posts that may be gathering dusts in your archives, but still deserve some home page linkage.

As you can above all you need to do is enable the Talking Points module and then specify which tags you want to display posts from. You can have more than one tag listed, separated by commas.

Placing an advert on your website

The Daily Edition theme has two dedicated ad sizes available to you. A Banner (468 x 60 pixels) advert and 4 Block (125×125 pixels) adverts.

The MPU and Banner adverts have dedicated positions on the site and are only required to be set up and enabled/disabled in the theme options.

The Block adverts are displayed in a widget, so to set up this advertising module to display don’t forget to add the adverts and links in the theme options and then assign the “Woo Ads – 125 x 125” widget to the “Sidebar Full Width” widgetized zone. See the image below.
