How To

Setting up the home page

Below is a screenshot of the Delicious Magazine home page with each of it’s modules explained. More detailed documentation below.

The Delicious home page layout explained

The home page of Delicious Magazine is largely widget based, with 4 regions available for placement of custom woo widgets in the footer and 1 sidebar regions. Place widgets in this region under “Appearance > Widgets”, follow the documentation on placing widgets below under the corresponding documentation.

The featured slider and sub-featured section (in our demo being the “Spotlight” section) can easily be disabled (more information in the next “How To” section) in the theme options.

Setting up the featured slider

The unique home page featured slider can be used to display noteworthy blog posts – this is because it is tag based. Once you have specified the tag it must loop through to display posts, make sure you add that tag to the blog posts you want to feature. It will display the title of the post, the excerpt, and the optional, but important, custom image which is the focal point of the panel. The slider is fixed to display 3 featured posts.

The Delicious Magazine Featured Panel

Adding the tag to the post is important, as is specifying the image to use in the “Delicious Magazine Custom Settings” panel below the WYSIWYG editor on the Add/Edit post form.

Remember to tag your posts with your featured panel tag defined in the theme options.

If you see the custom settings panel, below the WYSIWYG editor in the screenshot above you’ll see where to add the featured image that appears in the slider on the home page. Simply browse for the image on your computer, upload it, and then “Insert into post”, which will insert it into the custom field to display in the correct place at the correct size.

Setting up the sub-featured area

On the Delicious Magazine home page you can have sub-featured posts below the optional featured slider. These posts appear in a 3 column layout, above your other latest blog posts. This module is also tag based, like the featured slider above, so follow the documentation above to tag your posts with a specific tag and then assign it in the theme option’s panel.
